World Wide Pressed Flower Guild

General Guidelines that apply to ALL competition categories:

(Further specific guidelines that apply to each individual category are listed with the category description.)

  1. Deadline for receiving email competition application is June 15, 2020.
  2. First round of competition result will be announced by end of June 2020.
  3. Only finalists’ artworks will be accepted in the final round.
  4. Deadline for receiving personal delivery of finalists’ artwork is 4:30PM August 13, 2020. Deadline for receiving mailing of finalists’ artworks is August 12, 2020.
  5. You may enter as many submissions as you wish.
  6. All entries must be done by an individual (single person).
  7. All entries must be original and not submitted to any previous competitions and/or posted in any media.
  8. When submitting your artwork for final competition, your name, address, and category number must appear on the back of the artwork. No signature or personal stamp shall appear on the front side of the artwork.
  9. All artwork submitted along with the application must be high resolution (minimum size is 5X7 200 dpi).
  10. You need to add return postage to your cost when mailing in your artworks. Refer to www.usps.com for mailing cost. Make sure to include insurance if you desire to do so. The WWPFG will not be responsible for your return postage.
  11. All framed pictures over 8X10 must use acrylic instead of glass to avoid breakage.
  12. You grant the World Wide Pressed Flower Guild rights to publish image of your artwork on website and other mediums for non-profit educational purpose.

  14. All submissions must include filled-out application form and required return postage and fees.
  15. Competition artworks will be exhibited at the 2020 conference on 8/13 – 15.

Not permitted:

  1. No signature, personal stamp, or identifying marking on the front of the picture.
  2. No digital output, cutout images, or stamped images may be included.
  3. 3-dimension materials of any kind such as seeds, small twigs and branches or any plant material that is not pressed flat.
  4. If matting is used, it must function only as matting and not as part of the picture design.

Winners will receive cash awards. Actual award amount will be determined by the WWPFG executive committee overseeing the conference finance. Awards will be given on 8/15/2020. Non-conference attendees will receive awards after the conference.

Entry removal time is Sunday 8/16/2020 6:00PM.

Although the World Wide Pressed Flower Guild will exercise due caution in safeguarding competition and exhibit pieces, the Guild or its members cannot assume responsibility for injury, damage, or loss. Valuables used in the competition and exhibits should be insured by each individual.

All entries are judged based on its originality, design, condition and choice of material, color, and craftsmanship. Our judges are well respected pressed flower art judges.

The competition theme is The American West.

Category #1: Abundance – a summer container arrangement – minimum 3 different types of flowers in original colors.

Only pressed plant material (flowers, foliage, fruits, and vegetables) may be used. You may laminate the picture and submit the entry without frame.

This category is open only for those who have not won a first place award in any WWPFG pressed flower competition. Note: color enhanced materials maybe be used but minimum 3 types of flowers must be in original colors.

Not permitted:

  • Drawing and/or painting of the background.

Category #2: The Coast – a landscape of coastal area.

Create a coastal landscape picture using pressed plant materials. The place could be a real location or imaginative place.

Only pressed plant material (flowers, foliage, fruits, and vegetables) may be used. You may laminate the picture and submit the entry without frame. Note: color enhanced materials may be used.

Not permitted:

  • Drawing and/or painting of the background.

Category #3 The Wild West – wild flowers

Use your imagination for a picture of wild flowers.

The majority of the picture must be comprised of pressed plant material. Watercolor, pastel, acrylic, or oil is allowed on the background. You may laminate the picture and submit the entry without frame. Note: color enhanced materials may be used.

Category #4: My favorite flower (Youth Group)

Create a pressed flower art picture with your imagination.

Only pressed plant material (flowers, foliage, fruits, and vegetables) may be used. You may laminate the picture and submit the entry without frame.

This category is open only for those who are 18 or younger. Need to clearly indicate the age in the back of the picture. Note: color enhanced materials may be used.

  • Drawing and/or painting of the background.
